Q
How far to the nearest Beach?
A Duncannon,
8 miles from Warren Farm, is the nearest Beach. It has a Blue Flag for
quality and facilities. There are lots of other safe, sandy beaches and
coves on both
sides of Hook Peninsula and along the coast - Booley and Dollar Bays, Carnivan
and Baginbun, Grange Strand, to name but a few.
Q
Do I need a car?
A
Yes, a car is essential. The nearest village with
shops, pubs, restaurants, and post office is Campile about 4 Km away. The
nearest large town New Ross, is 9 Km from the Farm. The local pub is about 3 Km. There is very little
public transport available in the area.
Q
Do you live on the farm?
A
Yes, we live in the main farmhouse, which is close
to the cottages, so we are nearby if you need any help or information.
Q
What is there to do when we stay in your cottages?
A
There is such a lot to do that most
people say they were not able to do and see everything in a week!
Apart from
exploring the local coastal areas of South Wexford and Waterford, the
neighbouring counties of Kilkenny, Carlow, Tipperary and Wicklow are also there
to be discovered.
There are lots of lovely walks and drives in the area as well as in the Blackstairs Mountains to the north of
us, and in the Comeragh Mountains a bit further in Co. Waterford.
There is a
good riding stables and a Par 3 Golf course within 3 Km of us, and there is a
popular coarse fishing lake, Oaklands Lake about 8 Km away. There is a number of very good
golf courses near us. New Ross 18 hole is the nearest, but in easy reach
is the renowned Mount Juliet Course, Waterford Castle Course, Faithlegg Course,
Rosslare's St. Helen's Bay Golf Course, Dunmore East Course etc.
The JFK
Arboretum/Memorial Forest Park is a must to visit, and is about 3 Km from us. It has thousands of
trees and shrubs from all over the world in a lovely setting, and the viewing
point at the top of Sliabh Coillte (the wooded hill) in the Arboretum provides a great walk and has panoramic views of the surrounding five
counties.
The towns of
Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny are all quite different in character. The
Waterford Crystal Factory in that city has a very good factory tour and an
amazing showroom etc. Kilkenny Castle in Kilkenny city is popular, as is
the Kilkenny Design Yard and shop. County Kilkenny has a great many craftspeople
who proudly open their workshops and showrooms to visitors. Wexford
town is famous for its opera festival, and it has a vibrant, artistic, friendly
atmosphere.
The tall
ship "Dunbrody" is moored at the quayside of New Ross and provides excellent
interactive guided tours with actors in period costume and you can access their database of
passengers/emigrants to
America & Canada.
There are
ancient abbeys to visit - Dunbrody Abbey,
Tintern Abbey, Jerpoint Abbey, and in New Ross, St. Mary's Abbey.
...I
could go on, and on, but I think you will get the picture that there is lots to
do !
(Of course, you could just 'chill out' and relax in the peace and
quiet!)
